Peapod Foundation

Peapod Foundation

The Peapod Music and Arts Academy was launched by the Black-Eyed Peas' Peapod Foundation on January 17, 2008, at the Watts/Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club

This cutting-edge arts school sponsored by the Black Eyed Peas caters to disadvantaged and foster kids aged 13-19 in South Central Los Angeles. Accomplished media makers and performers lead hands-on classes and industry field trips designed to free inspiration, hone skills and connect talent to employment.

The Peapod Music & Arts Academy (PMAA) seeks to give foster and at-risk youth the necessary technical skills, educational supplementation and social awareness to initiate social change and to act as their own advocates by using their voices and creative vision. The PMAA has a unique structure that is simultaneously curriculum driven and project-based to ensure the youth are having an educational experience, as well as developing a personal vision for social change and having an opportunity to express their voices creatively.Youth are provided with hands-on training in the discipline of their choice and mentored by professionals in the field. They are also presented with a multitude of historical, sociological and political resources and information to aid in the development of a personal social philosophy. By working in smaller groups, students receive necessary personal attention and guidance from the instructors and mentors in the areas of Music, Film, Poetry, Dance, Acting and Digital Media.
